Family law veteran David Salter retires

Date:1 NOV 2018
Today marks the retirement of family law veteran David Salter from Mills & Reeve.

Salter, who continues to sit as a deputy High Court judge and Recorder, started his career at Mills & Reeve in 1972.

In 1997, Salter became chairman of Resolution, an interest group for family justice professionals.

He returned to Mills & Reeve in 2008, leaving Addleshaw Goddard, to open new offices in Leeds and Manchester.

Salter is well-respected among colleagues. Tributes poured in as solicitor Nigel Shepherd, head of family at Mills & Reeve, called him "legendary," while colleague Simon Bruce called Salter "one of the best family lawyers in the world."

"He leaves us with immense gratitude for all that he has done for the firm," Bruce added.

Salter, who held a retirement dinner in Leeds last night, was also praised by family law veteran David Hodson, who said: "It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege working alongside [Salter] in various committees and cases over several decades. Thank you for all you have done for family law nationally and internationally."
