This article summarises the work of the Leverhulme International Network on New Families; New Governance and reports on their final London academic conference in September 2014. Drawing on the opening keynote address by Baroness Hale key findings from this interdisciplinary and international 3-year project exploring the changing relationship between family and State are discussed and explored from different perspectives. Some commonalities and differences in causes and responses are considered alongside lessons for family law and policy locally and globally. The themes of Governance and regulation: making good families or making families good?; Renegotiating relationships; what is the future for family solidarity? And Voices heard and unheard: can we adjust the volume? are considered in the light of papers given by international speakers from Australia USA UK and Europe.
