Law Commission extends time for family law consultation

Date:13 JUL 2015
Third slide
Family lawyer
The Law Commission has extended the deadline for consultation responses to their project on the enforcement of family court financial orders to the 31 July 2015.

In my experience both the law and the procedure are far too complicated, expensive on legal costs, cumbersome, slow and, in their effect, weighted too much in favour of the defaulting party. This is invariably not big money case work but modest orders for recipients who desperately need payment of maintenance or other financial orders. In reality it's often the children who also suffer.

I think the Law Commission has come out with some good and positive proposals to improve both the law and the procedure and we practising family lawyers now need to respond and support and make our own suggestions for improvement.

More details of the project can be found here.
