Education and Adoption Bill 2015-16: latest news

Date:5 JUN 2015

The House of Commons has had its first reading of the Education and Adoption Bill 2015-16, which took place on 3 June 2015. The second reading date is yet to be announced.

The Bill makes provision about schools causing concern in England and addresses their conversion into Academies and about intervention powers. It also makes provision about joint arrangements for carrying out local authority adoption functions in England.

The Bill would enable the Secretary of State to require local authorities in England to make arrangements so that their adoption functions (including the recruitment, assessment and approval of prospective adopters) could be carried out by other authorities or adoption agencies.
