MARRIAGE: Rana v Manan

The parties married in an Islamic religious ceremony in Pakistan. The Ahmadi sect (large community in England) had been decreed ‘non-Muslims' under the Pakistan constitution. They considered themselves Muslims but Pakistani law did not. However, expert evidence was that marriage would have been valid in Pakistan.

Held that marriage recognised as valid in the UK.
