(Family Division, District Judge Bradley, 17 September 2012)
In financial remedy proceedings, the husband sought to restrict media access. The husband and his father were concerned about the embarrassment disclosure would cause and the potential effect on his career. The application was rejected but a temporary reporting restriction order was put in place.
The matters the media were interested in reporting concerned individuals not involved in the case. Reporting on those aspects would not enhance public understanding of the Family Justice System. Balancing the husband's European Convention Art 8 rights with the right of freedom of expression and open justice the balance fell firmly in favour of privacy being maintained.
