David Allison appointed as new chair of Resolution

15 March 2010

David Allison took over as the chair of Resolution, the family lawyers' association, at its annual conference in Manchester on Saturday.

Mr Allison, a partner with London based Family Law in Partnership, will head the national organisation, which represents over 5500 family lawyers, for two years.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: "With family issues set to dominate the election agenda this is a very exciting time to be taking over as Chair of Resolution.

"Family break-ups are a sad fact of modern life and the shape of the family has changed. Yet family law reform has been badly neglected. During my time as chair I shall be pressing all political parties to make family law reform a parliamentary priority."

Mr Allison has been a member of Resolution for 19 years. He previously chaired Resolution's Cohabitation Committee and led Resolution's campaign for a new law to provide financial rights for cohabiting couples. He worked closely with Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC on his Cohabitation Bill 2009.

David Allison has specialised in family law since 1991. In 1998 he joined the firm of Family Law In Partnership and became a partner in 2001.

David has a comprehensive family law practice, including divorce and is experienced in the legal issues affecting unmarried families and civil partners.
