Call for compulsory reporting

Date:4 NOV 2013

Keir Starmer, the former Director of Public Prosecutions, has called for compulsory reporting by professionals.

Speaking to Panorama, Mr Starmer expressed his belief that the UK should consider introducing mandatory reporting systems and that professionals who are in a position of authority should report allegations of child sexual abuse. Those who do not should face prosecution.

The Government has responded by stating that mandatory reporting is not the answer to improving child protection.

The programme, 'After Savile: No More Secrets?' will air on Panorama tonight, BBC One at 8:30 pm.
