During the 25-year marriage the husband and wife had two adult children. The wife was subject to an IVA and had significant debts arising from the collapse of her solicitor practice. She remained living in the matrimonial home which was heavily mortgaged.
The husband's financial position secure, he was the majority shareholder in a company he founded and his monthly drawings from the company were in the region of £24,000.
The wife was awarded the matrimonial home, unencumbered, plus a lump sum of £4m.
